✨ On Tuesday May 19, we’ll gather to paint portrai ✨ On Tuesday May 19, we’ll gather to paint portraits, free-hand or using stencils, whatever your preference. We’ll collage, draw, paint, reflect while listening to music 🎶 and tuning into ourselves and enjoying each other’s company. ✨ I like for my classes to feel accessible regardless of skill and experience with materials, so different options and tools are available. Stencils and traceable templates and images will be available for you to use along with different materials to explore and experiment with. ✨Your creation can be as abstract, whimsical or realistic, it can be mostly painted or mostly collaged. Come and paint your face or that of your personal muse of favorite person! Paint eyes, or not! Paint them open or closed…ears or no ears…lots of options and I look forward to seeing your creativity at play. ✨ Each of the “Kindling Creativity” classes has been a wonderful experience for me to share with others and I keep looking forward to the next one, and the next one…unfortunately there are only two classes left in the series and I’m already anticipating missing gathering weekly to create and connect with each and all of you! ✨ There are spots still open for registration, come join us for some creative time! ✨ To join the “Reflection Portrait” class or the “Artist Journal” class, please register by visiting the SJIMA website’s BLOG or on the museum instagram account @sji.museum.of.art ( 🔗 in BIO!) ✨Each adult art class is $25 and includes ALL materials and snacks! 🎨 Your “Reflection Portrait” doesn’t have to be re 🎨 Your “Reflection Portrait” doesn’t have to be realistic in order to capture your essence! 🎨 Enjoy layering collage papers and paint, then draw an oval for your face and two curvy lines for your neck. ✍️ Then scribble words that capture what it’s true for you right now…something you know about yourself, something you love about yourself or something you wish to be true about yourself. ✨ Let this creative process be a celebration of who you are and what you love…or a visual wish, if you will, of something you are sending into the world as an intention. 🎨 Using your favorite colors, words, symbols, doodles and shapes will give this mixed media portrait a feel of YOU! 💡 You can skip drawing hair, hairlines, ears, noses, eye brows and open eyes (all usually intimidating to draw unless you have had some previous experience or you are feeling wildly curious or confident! 😉) AND you can focus instead on using colors and words (yes all the squiggly white lines on the face or around the face are actual words I scribbled on these images!) 💡 Let yourself have fun with what you like, bringing those elements into your own portrait…Flowers? 🌺 Patterns? Collage bits? Favorite words? Butterflies? 🦋 Birds? 🐦‍⬛ 💡 You can scribble-write part of a poem, a quote, lyrics to a favorite 🎶 in the background, or on part of the face or neck! 💡 Add closed eyes, or open, brows or not, ears maybe…up to you! Add a hat, or a Venetian Carnival mask over the eyes for added flair! Or KEEP IT SIMPLE! Because what truly matters is the space you carve out of your week to be creative…the rest is details! And you get to choose the focus of your creative time! ✍️ Why am I writing all this? Because I have a sense that some of you out there might enjoy giving this particular class a try, AND yes drawing faces is intimidating to many! But can also be rewarding! So I made these alternate drawings for you because I want to let you know that YOUR drawing and painting time during this class can take many forms! 🎨 Some of the sweet people from last night’s class 🎨 Some of the sweet people from last night’s class, Colorful Mandalas, and their colorful creations…and mine…still in progress! 😉 🎨 We used traditional watercolors with brushes, and also travel brushes (for the fun of it and to get a feel for them) then we used watercolor pencils, watercolor markers and paint pens…because you never know what you’re going to love till you try them all! 😄 🎨 Some drawings were done free-hand and some using stencils…some mandalas were free-flowing and some had a radiating intricate pattern. 🎨 We all sat down without a plan…but little by little throughout the evening small critters and wild animals started taking form on one of the papers, while faces were emerging on another painting…and patterns inside yet another…all so very awesome! 🎨 Since we were a small group, I too sat down to paint and tested some of the new nature stencils I bought…my work was not a mandala, but I enjoyed painting and relaxing while listening to soft tunes. 🎶 🎨 Each of my classes is so different, some are more upbeat with a fun and energizing playlist 🎶 playing in the background and some are relaxing…last night it was definitely relaxing! 🎨 Thanks to everyone who came! ✨ A NEW Joy Jar I have had the absolute pleasure o ✨ A NEW Joy Jar I have had the absolute pleasure of creating while visiting my family…we had a little gathering and creating around the dining room table and it was so relaxing and cozy! And I am SO GRATEFUL for it! 💚 The little heart is an actual gemstone, Green Aventurine, which was fun gluing to the jar’s lid! And I added little paper details glued to the inside of the lid…something new and fun! 🎀 And I am particularly fond of the oh-so-soft to the touch velvety ribbon, which is actually so soothing to fiddle with! ☺️ 🟩 This time I cut my cards square instead of rectangular, and I played with the pinking ✂️ to trim the edges of the paper around the jar and the edges of some of the cards…I look forward to writing little joyful inspiration on the back of my cards overtime ☺️ and adding little decorative highlights to my deck of tiny cards. ✨ : : : #joy #gathertocreate #creatingtogether #creatingtogether❤️ #paintingcards
